A SPATE of arsons are being investigated by Cleveland Police.

Several fires have been set in and around Peaton Street in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, in the last few weeks.

A house fire occurred on the street on Tuesday, June 2. No-one was injured as the occupant was not in the property.

Other fires have been started in the bins in the rear alley between Peaton Street and Maria Street.

A bin was set alight on Wednesday, June 24, at around 2am and another bin was set alight on Saturday, 27 June, at around 12.30am.

It is believed that one of the bin fires may have been started by a man who is described as being aged in his 20s. At this time it is unknown whether the arson attacks are linked.

PC Andrew Hampson said: β€œIt goes without saying that it is extremely dangerous to start fires. Thankfully, no one has been hurt during any of these incidents, but there is always a chance that someone could get injured.”

Anyone with any information regarding the fires is asked to contact PC Hampson on 101, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111 or crimestoppers-uk.org
