A GIRL has been arrested after a 17-year-old girl was stabbed.

Police are appealing for information after the teenager was assaulted in Gosforth.

"At around 12.55am on Sunday, May 10, officers received a report of a 17-year-old with stab injuries in the Coxlodge area of Newcastle," said a spokesman for Northumbria Police.

"She was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

"Another 17-year-old female, believed to be known to the victim, has been arrested an suspicion of assault and is helping police with enquiries."

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to establish the exact location where the incident has happened.

Extra officers are on patrol in the area to carry out enquiries and provide reassurance.
