A 13-YEAR-OLD is among two people arrested in connection with a spate of bogus caller offences.

At around 12.50pm on Friday, May 8, police received a report of concerns for builders overcharging for work at a number of addresses in Cullercoats, North Tyneside.

Officers attended the scene where a 39 year-old man and a 13-year-old teenager were arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Extra officers are patrolling the area to carry out enquiries, provide reassurance and help deter any further offences.

"It's a timely reminder for people to be vigilant, I'd advise residents not to agree to work being done by those who cold call at their home or approach them in the street," said a spokesman for Northumbria Police.

"And when agreeing for work to be done by a company ensure you get a written quotation and ask for identification and contact details for the company - any reputable business will be more than happy to accommodate.

"I would ask for everyone to pass this warning on to the elderly, whether you are a carer, a relative or a neighbour. If you are in any doubt or suspicious contact police straight away so we can carry out enquiries."
