POLICE investigating an alleged historic sexual assault want to trace wrestlers from the 1990s.

The victim, who was a child at the time, was sexually assaulted at Sandy Bay Caravan Park, Ashington, Northumberland, in 1994.

Police believe that wrestlers, who provided entertainment at the caravan park, may hold key information.

Officers are asking that anyone who may have information about any of the wrestlers to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Mick Rose said: "This is an important line of investigation.

“If you or a family member were part of the wrestling community or were contracted to venues in the Northumberland area, you may be able to help officers.

"The wider public may also have information about the identity of the wrestlers. I would urge anyone who visited Sandy Bay Caravan Park during the 90s and watched a wrestling event to come forward. Photographs or videos of the event would be valuable to enquiries.

"We are determined to do all we can to fully investigate this incident and officers are continuing to provide specialist support to the victim as the investigation is ongoing."

Anyone with information should call Northumbria Police on 101.
