TWO men who admit taking part in a joint enterprise to supply cannabis will face a further wait to be sentenced after one of them missed his appointment with the probation service.

Shabab Asif claimed not to have received an appointment letter which “regrettably” meant there was no pre-sentence report prepared for him, his barrister Graham Silvester said.

Teesside Crown Court was told that Asif delivered drugs to the duo’s customers, while his co-accused Wajid Khan took up driving duties.

Prosecutor Rachel Masters said Khan was found in possession of a significant quantity of cannabis as well as £1,184 cash. Text messages found on his phone were also indicative of drug dealing, she said.

Khan, 30, of Marton Road, Middlesbrough, had pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply, but said he was only dealing to friends to support his own habit. This had not been accepted by the Crown.

Asif, 21, of Gifford Street, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to the same charge. His legal representative Andrew White said he needed to be sentenced at the same time as Khan.

Both men will return to court for another hearing on March 25.
