A MAN who demanded cash from a shop had the BB gun he was brandishing snatched off him by staff.

Police are appealing for information after the attempted robbery in Newcastle.

At 6.15pm on Tuesday, the man entered the S A Shariff shop in Wellfield Road and demanded a member of staff hand over cash.

"The man was carrying a BB gun which he threatened the staff member with, however the staff member took it from him," said a Northumbria Police spokeswoman.

"The offender then fled the scene empty-handed.

"He is described as around 5ft 8ins tall, around 18-years-old and wearing a dark blue hooded jacket, dark blue jogging bottoms and black trainers. He was wearing a blue scarf to cover his face."

No one was injured during the incident and extra officers are carrying out patrols in the area.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and police are appealing for anyone who was in Wellfield Road around the time of the incident and saw anything to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 845 25/02/15.
