RESIDENTS are being urged to help shape the future of policing across the Cleveland force area.

Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger is hosting an interactive web chat on Tuesday, January 27 between 6pm and 7pm where the public can question him on his future plans.

Mr Coppinger has already opened online consultation on his website www.cleveland.pcc.police.uk and will speak to community groups about whether his priorities continue to reflect the needs of communities.

He said: “The policing and criminal justice landscape is changing, with new challenges such as serious, organised and cyber crime, as well as borderless criminals impacting areas such as rural crime, I must ensure that the needs of all of Cleveland’s communities are taken into account through the Police and Crime Plan.

“I’ve visited over 230 community meetings since being elected, so I am well versed on how important policing and victims’ services are for local people. I am keen to extend this consultation to individuals, public sector agencies and to private businesses so that it’s really a living document for the people of Cleveland.”

Residents are asked for their views on five priorities within the plan: Retain and develop neighbourhood policing; Ensure a better deal for victims and witnesses; Divert people from offending with a focus on rehabilitation and the prevention of reoffending; Develop better coordination, communication and partnership between agencies to make the best use of resources; and Working for better industrial and community relations.
