A PENSIONER is fighting for his life after being found with serious head injuries at a house in an east Cleveland village.

The 66-year-old was discovered in Brookside in Boosbeck at around 8.50pm on Saturday, October 25 when neighbours found the man inside the property.

He was taken to James Cook University Hospital where his condition remains critical.

The victim had not been seen since around teatime the day before (Friday, October 24) and police are appealing for anyone who saw anything or anyone suspicious to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Matt Murphy-King said: “This elderly and vulnerable man has suffered a vicious and sustained attack resulting in life threatening injuries. We believe the incident was a targeted attack and would like to reassure the community that such incidents are very rare.

“In response to what has happened we have increased high visibility patrols in the area and we would like to urge any members of the local community who may have information which could assist our investigation."

Two local men aged 37 and 40 have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DI Murphy-King on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
