POLICE are hunting a sex attacker after an early morning assault on a footbridge in York.

A 29-year-old woman was walking over the bridge that crosses the railway between York Hospital and Grosvenor Road when the incident happened last Friday, September 5

Sometime between 12.30am and 1am she was approached by a man who exposed himself and made suggestive comments, before pushing her against a wall.

However the victim engaged the suspect in conversation and managed to get away from him without being physically injured.

The attacker had an olive complexion, was in his early 30s and about 5ft 10in tall, with a slim build and brown hair, cut short but in a curtains style. He spoke with a foreign accent and said he had been in the country for about a year.

Detective Sergeant Steve Wilson said: “Thankfully the woman was not injured as a result of this incident. However, she was left shaken by the experience.

“If you witnessed the assault or have any information which could identify the man responsible, I urge you to contact the police straight away.”
