BRITISH Transport Police are investigating the theft of a suitcase containing specialist climbing shoes on a Newcastle-bound train.
Officers have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to about the theft which happened on a train from Birmingham New Street to Newcastle on July 26.
The case’s owner, a 43-year-old Stockton man, had placed it in the luggage rack in the vestibule area of coach J but when he went to retrieve it at Darlington station he discovered it was missing.
The case is a distinctive dark blue Quicksilver brand with red lettering.
PC Tony McGhin said: "After reviewing CCTV from on the train a man is seen taking the bag just prior to the train’s arrival into Darlington at 5.45pm.
“We have undertaken extensive enquiries in an attempt to trace this man but to no avail.
“We are now hoping that by issuing this image, someone may know who he is and come forward to assist our investigation.
“We are not sure where the man boarded the service or if he left the train at Darlington, it may be that he continued on the service to Durham or Newcastle.”
