A MAN has been arrested after a woman was found dead in Gateshead.

At just before 1.45pm, on Thursday, July 31, police received a report of concern for the woman outside a former care home on Bensham Road.

Officers attended the scene along with the ambulance service and the 28-year-old was pronounced dead. A report is being prepared for the coroner.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said a "41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the offer to supply drugs".

He is currently helping police with enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Andy Groundwater said: "We're piecing together the circumstances surrounding this woman's death.

"She was found in the early afternoon when many people were going about their daily business.

"I'd urge anyone who was in the area of Bensham Road, on Thursday, July 31, and who may have seen this woman to come forward as their information could assist our investigation."
