At 1.40pm today, (Tuesday July 29,) Northumbria Police received a report expressing concern for an 18-year-old man in Pinewood Close in Newcastle.

The man was found in the street and appeared disorientated. He was taken to hospital by ambulance staff where he later died.

Enquiries into his death are at an early stage, however, police believe that he may have been at party in Stuart Court in Newcastle on Monday evening and taken a drug which could be linked to his death.

Three people believed to have been present at the party in Stuart Court are currently being interviewed by the police as they investigate this death.

Police want to warn anyone who thinks they may have been at the party last night and who may have taken a substance to go to hospital immediately for treatment and then contact the police.

Northumbria Police Chief Inspector Peter Bent said: "The initial police investigation into this young man's death indicates that he may have taken some kind of drug and that he has had a fatal reaction to the substance.

"We do not yet know what he has taken or if anyone else has taken it. That's why we need anyone who was at this party in Stuart Court to contact us and if they have taken any drugs there to go to hospital immediately and get checked out."
