TRANSPORT police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with a suitcase stolen from train.

A 20-year-old passenger realised her black suitcase was missing as she prepared to leave the train at Darlington railway station at about 1pm on Friday, June 13.

Investigation of CCTV from the train showed a man boarding the train empty handed, accompanied by a black dog, at Newcastle.

He is later seen leaving the train at Darlington with a black bag matching that of the victim.

PC Steve Maddison, investigating officer from British Transport Police, said: “The victim, a 20-year-old woman from Grantham, left her black fabric suitcase in the luggage racks on board the 12:57 Newcastle to Kings Cross service after she boarded at Newcastle.

“When she came to leave the train at Darlington, she discovered her suitcase was missing.

“Enquiries have been ongoing to identify the person responsible for the theft but to no avail. I am now appealing for anyone who recognises the man in this photograph to come forward as I believe he will have key information which can assist this investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call British Transport Police on 0800-40-50-40 or text 61016, quoting incident reference PSUB/B4 of 11/07/14.
