A PARADE of shops in Stockton is under-going a revamp as part of a borough-wide improvement programme.

The works at Redhill Road in Roseworth shops are part of a shopping parade enhancement programme which will see Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council upgrade paving, benches, bins and landscaping on publicly owned land.

The council is also working with owners of the privately owned shops and land to encourage them to make improvements too.

At Redhill Road shop, council workers are planting new trees and carrying out work at the nearby bus stop and pavement, which will include introducing new dropped kerb crossing points for pedestrians.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and transport, Councillor Nigel Cooke, said: "We know how well used and liked these shops are by residents, so we want to make sure they remain in a good state of repair and accessible for everyone.

Thirteen Group, the owner of several shops on Redhill Road, will also be carrying out improvements, particularly to the canopy above their shops, to ensure maximum impact and benefit to the parade.

Similar works will take place at Windlestone Road in Billingham and High Newham Court in Hardwick in the coming months.
