THE new look Yarm Library was officially opened by the Mayor of Stockton this week.
Mayor Ken Dixon cut the ribbon at a ceremony to celebrate the library’s refurbishment following a full refurbishment.
The library on Yarm High Street has new furniture, shelving and self-service facilities, and has undergone improvements to the children’s section, outdoor garden area and disabled access.
It also houses a new branch of Newcastle Building Society.
Cllr Dixon said: “It is fantastic to see the new range of services available to residents and the modern, refurbished interior. Libraries are central to our local communities and I am sure the upgraded Yarm branch will continue to be very much loved by local residents.”
Councillor Norma Wilburn, the council’s cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, added: “Our ground-breaking partnership with Newcastle Building Society offers a range of financial services to local people, providing another reason to visit the library.”
However the Egglescliffe Library building, just a mile from Yarm’s library, will close in a cost-cutting exercise, although a library service will be provided at a community building.
