A COUNCILLOR has scooped a national award for her dedication to her community.

Councillor Lynn Pallister, of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, was recognised by the Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) and CCLA at a special ceremony in London’s Guildhall.

The Grangetown councillor was selected as the County Councillor of the Year for being a committed advocate for her constituents and bringing about positive change in her community through her role as a Community Enterprise Manager with FROG – Future Regeneration of Grangetown.

She recently helped secure £1m of funding to transform a derelict social club into a community space to serve the Grangetown community and also took the lead in setting up Teesside Steel Appeal, a local charity supporting families affected by the closure of the local steelworks in 2015.

The appeal attracted support from across the country, including major retailers, and ensured that families who had lost work could still enjoy Christmas despite the loss of income.

The winners were selected by judges made up of local government experts and councillors.
