SPORTS and fitness groups in Middlesbrough have benefited from grants of up to £20,000 thanks to a fund promoting exercise.
The Physical Activity Fund was launched in 2015 to support projects that promoted exercise and health.
Fairy Dell in Coulby Newham has benefited from a £19,000 grant to install outdoor “trim trail” gym equipment, and Acklam Rugby Club received £20,000 towards building work and improved changing facilities.
NUR Fitness was also awarded £14,350 to fund basketball and netball sessions for women from the Asian community.
Smaller projects got up to £2,000 and larger grants of up to £20,000 are on offer. A grants panel chose 37 projects out of 59 applications.
