VOLUNTARY and community organisations in Hartlepool are being invited to apply for grants to help improve people’s information technology (IT) and computer skills within the local community.

The Northgate Public Services Community Fund is providing £30,000 to the scheme, which was launched last year, and forms part of the partnership between Hartlepool Council and NPS.

Organisations can use the grants for a variety of purposes, including training courses to enhance core IT and digital skills of local people, schools and teachers.

To be eligible for a grant, organisations must deliver services in Hartlepool Borough and have been in existence for more than 12 months.

Councillor Christopher Akers-Belcher, the Leader of Hartlepool Council, said: “There are many benefits to the town as a whole as part of our agreement with NPS.

“The Fund is designed to improve people’s IT skills which are so important in today’s society.”

Last year, seven local organisations benefitted from grants totalling almost £29,000, including Incontrol Able, an organisation that provides support services for disabled people.

Application forms can be found by contacting Kirsty Swanson at Hartlepool Council on 01429 523003 or online at www.hartlepool.gov.uk/ncf

The closing date for applications is Friday June 26.
