COUNTY Durham’s household waste recycling centres (HWRC) will switch to summer opening hours next month.

Between April 1 and September 30, HWRCs will operate the following opening hours: Annfield Plain, Heighington Lane in Newton Aycliffe, Middleton-in-Teesdale, Potterhouse Lane in Pity Me, Roman Way in Bishop Auckland, Seaham and Tudhoe will open 9am to 6pm every day; Coxhoe, Horden and Thornley will open 10am to 4pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 6pm on Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays; Hett Hills in Chester-le-Street and Stainton Grove in Barnard Castle will open 9am to 6pm on Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays..

Hett Hills will also open throughout the week during the busy Easter period from April 14, to April 21.

Details of all HWRCs are available at durham.gov.uk/hwrc Residents with a van, trailer, mini-bus or pick-up need to apply for a free waste permit at durham.gov.uk/householdpermit or by calling 03000-261000. Commercial waste is not accepted.
