A COUNCIL has apologised after library users suffered two days of disruption to internet services.

It is understood it has not been possible to access the internet using terminals in Durham County Council libraries due to a fault.

One user said: “No-one knows what is going on. Whoever is responsible for this should do their job properly and sort it out.

“For some people the library internet is their only access, particularly if they are on a low income and do not have a computer or smart phone.”

Mary Readman, customer relations, policy and performance manager at Durham County Council, said: “Unfortunately we have been experiencing some problems with internet access in some of our libraries and we apologise to people who have been affected for any inconvenience this has caused.

“We are working to resolve these issues as quickly as possible. Library staff are advising customers on the location of other buildings which provide access to online facilities and computers are available in our customer access points which people can use to access information on council services.”
