FOUR litter picking events have been organised to mark next month’s World Environment Day.
The County Durham Environment Partnership has organised the events on June 5 to encourage individuals and organisations to get involved in looking after their own community.
Events will take place on Seaham beach, the Sustrans cycle way in Consett and Oakley Green in West Auckland from 10.30am to 12.30pm and at The Sands in Durham City from 2pm to 3pm.
Partnership chairman Terry Collins said: “Litter can cause many problems for our environment: it’s unhygienic, harmful to wildlife and generally unsightly.
“By running these events, not only do we minimise these issues but we also make County Durham altogether greener.”
