PEOPLE who leave a mess on the streets of County Durham face action from a council's environmental team.

During February, Durham County Council issued fixed penalty notices and fines to a hundred people who were caught dropping litter during February. A further six people received FPNs from the authority for failing to pick up after their dogs and council neighbourhood wardens also dealt with 189 stray dogs throughout the month.

Six notices were also given to people who failed to comply with litter clearing notices in relation to untidy yards or gardens.

The council has issued a reminder to residents that they can take household waste to their nearest recycling centre and can arrange for bulky waste collections by contacting the authority on 03000-26 000.
