COMMUNITY groups hoping to sign up for a £500 grants scheme are urged to apply before the deadline at the end of the month.

The “It’s Your Neighbourhood” scheme, organised by the Royal Horticultural Society as part of the wider Britain In Bloom project, encourages community groups in County Durham to take part in environmental projects.

Small grants are available for groups taking part in projects such as: litter picking, revamping open spaces, flower planting and adding floral designs to make spaces more visually attractive.

The Community Grant Scheme is led locally by Durham County Council’s Civic Pride and Clean and Green teams.

Pauline Walker, Durham County Council’s Senior Civic Pride Officer said: “While we have had a positive response so far, we would like to remind people that there is still time to apply for funding and make a positive change to a place they live, work or spend their time”

Further details and application forms are available from www.durham.gov.uk/itsyourneighbourhood or 03000 261 000 ahead of the January 30 application deadline.
