COUNCILLOR Bill Dixon, the leader of Darlington Borough Council, in his letter (HAS, Feb 27) thanked those who expressed their views on the NHS Sustainable Transformation Plan.

He added that the council would continue to provide opportunities for people to have their say on this issue.

However, he and his council do not have a good record of listening and acting in accordance with views expressed by Darlington residents on the big important issues affecting the people of Darlington.

Take for instance a bus station for the town. Residents have made clear in this newspaper and in petitions to the council that having a bus station is a priority for Darlington. What's more, there is an ideal site available behind the Dolphin Centre, almost opposite the town hall, in the council's ownership.

Secondly, the issue of the public library in Crown Street being closed and moved to the Dolphin Centre has been the subject of innumerable letters, meetings and petitions, all stating complete opposition to the change of location. So far the council has made very clear it will defy all public opinion and proceed with its plans, notwithstanding.

So, people of Darlington, do not expect Mr Dixon to do anything other than what he wants to do.
