A WEEK of spooky shenanigans and ghoulish goings on will provide a programme of half-term activities for Darlington’s youngsters.

The town’s libraries will lead the fiendish fun with author Kay Wilson hosting a spooky storytelling and craft activity inspired by her latest Halloween Story on Wednesday, October 26.

A session in Darlington’s Crown Street Library will be held between 10.30am and 11.15am before a second session is hosted in Cockerton Library between 2pm and 2.45pm.

Author-turned-illustrator, Nadia Shireen, will then stage the Hey Presto theatre production in Crown Street Library, adapted from her carnival-themed children’s book.

Half-term entertainment in the library will conclude with a free Halloween film showing on Saturday, October 29, featuring children’s movie Hotel Transylvania, from 2pm.

The Head of Steam railway museum will also get into the scary spirit with a Halloween Little Boo Fun Day for visitors of all ages between 11am and 3.30pm on Sunday, October 23.

Activities will include storytelling, a treasure trail, mini-train rides and arts and crafts.

Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure and the environment, said: “We look forward to seeing as many people as possible joining in the ghostly goings on and hope they’ll also take the time to visit some of the borough’s other shops, cafes and attractions.”
