PARENTS attempting to park close to a village school will face stricter measures.

Double yellow lines will be painted over the brow of a hill in Heighington, near Darlington, in a bid to stop school time traffic creating hazards.

Parents driving their children to Heighington Primary School have been causing severe congestion on Redworth Road, with traffic often parking on the brow of a hill and causing potential danger to oncoming vehicles.

Drivers will be expected to expected to use a one-way route through Hopelands to access the school and zig zag markings there will be expanded and repainted.

Any parents found stopped at the entrance of the school and causing an obstruction for school taxis and disabled parents will be fined.

Changes are expected to be implemented by Christmas 2014 and after that, police and Darlington Borough Council will carry out joint enforcement patrols.
