A SOCIAL club has raised £1,000 to help pay for a prosthetic arm for Paralympic hopeful Lyndon Longhorne.

The cheque was presented to the disabled swimmer, from Crook, County Durham, on Saturday night, after a raffle at Stanhope Sports and Social Club.

The 14-year-old lost both legs and part of an arm when he was a baby, but hopes one day to swim in the Paralympic Games.

Durham County Council chairman Brian Myers and The Northern Echo launched the Limbs For Lyndon Campaign last year to help the teenager buy a bionic arm.

Club secretary Jim Creaser said: “We chose to support Lyndon’s appeal because of the courage, bravery and, above all, the amazing spirit he has shown in trying to achieve the targets he has set himself in life, in the face of adversity.

“Lyndon attended the presentation at the club with his mum and his stepdad.

“We were very impressed with their friendliness and Lyndon’s famous smile never left his face all night.

“It was a pleasure to welcome Lyndon, his mum and his stepdad to the club and they made many friends on the evening.”
