8:49am Monday 21st December 2009 in Limbs For Lyndon
TRADERS dug deep at their annual awards night to raise money for an inspirational teenager fighting to overcome disability to compete in the Paralympic Games.
Durham City Forum donated £750 to the Limbs 4 Lyndon campaign, which aims to raise the money to buy new arms and legs for 14-year-old Lyndon Longhorne, who was struck down with meningitis as a baby.
The forum made the donation to Councillor Brian Myers, chairman of Durham County Council and the charity, during last week’s Durham City Retail Awards, at Ramside Hall Hotel.
Coun Myers said: “It warms me to think that the people enjoying themselves should think of Lyndon, and to club together and get this amount is fabulous.
“It came as a complete surprise to me as I was invited to the awards night as a guest.”
Passing the money over to the charity was Colin Wilkes and Richard Toynbee, who organised the evening on behalf of the forum.
Mr Toynbee said: “We know of all the hard work that has been going on with regards to the appeal and we thought we could help out with the finances as we know that Lyndon will need help in the future.”
