MONEY for Crook teenager Lyndon Longhorne continues to surprise campaigners with more than £2,000 donated in the last week.
The Limbs For Lyndon appeal, led by Durham County Council chairman Brian Myers and The Northern Echo, has seen £10,000 raised towards new prosthetic legs from specialist clinic Dorset Orthopaedic.
Fundraisers are working towards a new target of £25,000 for a bionic arm for when Lyndon learns to drive at 16.
The 13-year-old is aiming to swim for Great Britain in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
The Showmen’s Guild annual luncheon, held last week at Ramside Hall Hotel, near Durham City, raised £1,443.
The guild, which represents travelling showmen, held a raffle and a charity game of heads and tails.
John Culine, secretary for the Showmen’s Guild, said: “Our annual luncheon has been going on for over 40 years and this is the first time anything like this has been done. Our members wish Lyndon well.”
An evening of clairvoyance with TV psychic Henry Cumming also saw a further £600 raised on Friday.
