Keep The Region Flying is a campaign urging the Government to step in to maintain the region's air links with London following the departure of BMI from Durham Tees Valley Airport.

Airport launches service to Norway

ONE of an airport’s longstanding airlines is to launch a new service from next week.

Eastern Airways is to provide a daily route during the week from Durham Tees Valley Airport to Bergen, in Norway.

The service, which will go via Aberdeen, starts on Monday.

It leaves at 6.40am to arrive in Bergen at 11.10am local time. Services return at 2.40pm landing at 5.10pm.

Eastern Airways has been running from Durham Tees Valley Airport for a decade.

Roger Hage, the airline’s ground services manager, said: “The North-East has had strong trade links with Norway for many years.

“This new connection from Durham Tees Valley allows us to provide an alternative early morning link from the North- East, enabling passengers to reach Bergen just after 11am.

“This early morning departure from the North-East is aimed primarily at business travellers and complements our existing non-stop 10.30am service from Newcastle to Bergen, offering more choice from the region.”

Richard Whitehouse, aviation project manager for Peel Airports, said: “I’m sure that the introduction of this quick and convenient link will be warmly welcomed by business people, both in the Tees Valley and in Norway.

“Both are major players in the oil and gas industries and centres of excellence in subsea technologies.”

Bergen, in south-west Norway, is a gateway to the country’s world-famous fjords. Its airport also serves Norway’s oil and gas industry.
