Four GCSEs. Professional cookery NVQ Level 2. Studying at Darlington College for a professional cookery diploma – patisserie and confectionery NVQ Level 3.
WHEN I complete my course this summer I will have a good grounding in a broad range of catering skills.
As part of the course I go on work experience to Solberge Hall, in Northallerton, where I have been working as a pastry chef. That has been perfect for taking the things that I have learnt at college into the real world. I also worked for a while as a kitchen assistant at Osmotherley Youth Hostel and that was also great for building up my experience.
I am not afraid of hard work. You cannot afford to be in this industry.
The TV chefs might make it look glamorous, and it may be for the likes of Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay, but at the level I am at it’s about hard work and dedication.
My ultimate aim is to be in charge of my own restaurant or bakery. But I understand that in this industry you have to develop your skills and gain a reputation.
Getting a job in a local restaurant or hotel after I leave college in July would be a great start. I have a car, so I am pretty flexible.
