A Chance To Live
Deadline looming for town's road race
ORGANISERS of one of the region's most popular sporting events have issued a reminder that the deadline for entries is looming.
The Sherwoods Chevrolet Darlington 10K Road Run will be held on Sunday, August 14.
Entries are already pouring in for the event, which attracted nearly 1,200 runners last year and has raised more than £40,000 for good causes in the past.
But organisers have warned that the August 1 deadline for entries was approaching and encouraged as many people as possible to sign up.
It has also been confirmed that awards will be handed out for the first time if the men's or women's course record times are broken.
The run is again being linked to The Northern Echo's A Chance to Live campaign, which is highlighting the importance of taking steps to prevent heart disease.
The campaign was launched by the newspaper following the death of its deputy chief photographer, Ian Weir, at the age of 38.
After securing millions of pounds worth of investment in coronary care, it is now focused on helping to prevent heart problems occurring.
The run will be sponsored by Sherwoods Chevrolet and held in association with The Northern Echo, Darlington Borough Council, Highland Spring, Saucony, Darlington Primary Care Trust and Alpha Radio.
Entry forms are available from the Dolphin Centre or log on to www. runners world. co. uk
