Goose recovers after being shot with crossbow

| ANIMAL CRUELTY: The ends of one of the crossbow bolts sticks out of the goose's neck |
A GOOSE has survived after it was shot twice
with a crossbow.
The animal was found with the bolts sticking
out of its neck and body when RSPCA inspectors
were called to Shotton Colliery,
County Durham, on Wednesday morning.
The bird was found on a farm in Salters
Lane and was taken to a local vet, where the
bolts were removed.
Luckily, they had not pierced any vital organs
or caused serious damage, and the bird
made a full recovery.
RSPCA inspector Graeme Foggin said:
"This is a shocking case of deliberate, targeted
cruelty. I can barely imagine the suffering
this goose endured.
"Attacks of this kind are becoming more
and more common and we are only seeing
and treating a small percentage of those that
are affected.
"A lot of injured animals will simply hide
away to die painful and lingering deaths
alone. If anyone has any information about
who may have done this, I urge them to contact
the RSPCA immediately. The sooner we
get to the bottom of this horrific crime the
better."
Anyone with information is asked to call
the RSPCA on 0300-1234-999.
