THE RSPCA is trying to trace the owner of a cat who was found struggling for breath inside a plastic bag.
The cat was discovered on the boat ramp, off Cliff Terrace, Marske, near Redcar, east Cleveland, at about 9pm last Thursday.
RSPCA inspector Michelle Penny said: “This cat would have died had he not been found when he was. He was literally suffocating.
“Someone tried to kill this cat and we want to know who.
“It would seem he’s been attacked before being put in the bag.
“He was badly bruised around his neck and bleeding from his mouth. His eyes were bloodshot and his tongue was black.
“We think he’s been swung around by the collar he was wearing then put in the bag and asphyxiated.”
He is described as a healthy large male neutered tabby. He was wearing a red suede diamante- studded collar but was not micro-chipped.
The cat is recovering at the charity’s Great Ayton Animal Centre.
Anyone who thinks the cat is theirs, or has information that might help the investigation, is asked to call the RSPCA on 0300-1234-999.
