THE RSPCA is looking for the owner of a greyhound abandoned in a stable block at one of its North-East centres.

The dog, named Flax, was heard crying in the tack room as staff locked up at the Great Ayton Animal Centre, near Middlesbrough, at about 6.15pm on Monday, June 15.

Rebecca Williams, deputy animal centre manager, said: “My dogs started barking like mad and when I went to investigate I heard him. I opened the tack room door and he was just standing there, looking at me.

“It’s unbelievable really. Whoever dumped him had to have climbed over the main gates and an 8ft fence to get him to the stable-block, presumably carrying him.

“Flax, as he’s been named by staff, is described as brindle and white. He isn’t neutered. He was wearing a leather collar but it didn’t have an ID tag, has no tattoos or micro-chip.”

The RSPCA is keeping an open mind as to how he came to be abandoned at the centre.

Anyone who recognises Flax is asked to call the advice line on 0300-1234-999.

Staff at the centre will keep him for 28 days before putting him up for re-homing.
