ALL Creatures Great and Small star Christopher Timothy was yesterday reunited with his car from the television series.

The actor appeared at the World of James Herriot museum in Thirsk yesterday. He was there with the newly restored 1934 Austin 7, which he drove in the BBC tale of the fictional North Yorkshire vet.

The actor travelled to the region to appear at the Welcome to Yorkshire stand at the Great Yorkshire Show with Rosie Page, the daughter of the book’s author, Alf Wight.

When the event was called off, they headed to the Thirsk attraction – based in Alf Wight’s original surgery. A crowd gathered on the pavement, keen to talk to the actor.

Mr Timothy recalled there had been some “quite scary” moments in the car when shooting the television series – when the crew discovered three out of four of the brake cables were not working.

It was restored by specialist Bruce Grange and returned to the museum.

Mr Timothy said: “Coming here I find very emotional – I love it here.

“I’m delighted there’s a younger audience discovering James Herriot.

I don’t think it will be shown on mainstream TV again, but if it was, it would have an audience.”

Mrs Page said the public response to yesterday’s event proved the appeal of James Herriot was still strong.

Leslie Shaw and her husband Sam had travelled from Memphis in the US to see the museum.

Mrs Shaw said: “It’s a real treat to see Rosie and Christopher Timothy. It’s like meeting Elvis and his family.”
