PAUL Collingwood and Scott Borthwick were well on the way to getting Durham’s lead up to 250 when rain intervened at 2.30.
They had added 31, taking the score to 147 for seven, a lead of 227 when Collingwood was struck on the right hand by Chris Wright and needed treatment.
The umpires decided the light was too bad for play to resume and the rain arrived shortly afterwards.
Wright had begun to bowl aggressively at Collingwood, who walked off in the direction of square leg after being hit then kicked his bat away.
It has been a frustrating day for Wright, who was the pick of the five bowlers in the morning but was the only one not to take a wicket.
Collingwood was on 29 and Borthwick had played nicely for 15 when play was halted.
