A 19-YEAR-OLD man has been airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after being struck by a car this morning. A police spokesman said a Mercedes Benz collided with the teenager the near to the roundabout at Delves Lane, at its junction with the A692 and Rotary Way, Consett, County Durham, at 11.30am. The pedestrian, who is from the Consett area, was taken by the Great North Air Ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The Mercedes Benz was driven by a local man, who was unhurt. The spokesman said: "The pedestrian received serious head injuries and was airlifted to Newcastle RVI where he is now in intensive care. "The scene has now been cleared and the road has reopened "Police spoke to a number of witnesses at the scene but are still keen to contact any others." Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the accident should contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 and ask for the collision investigation unit.
