THE family of a young teacher who died from a brain tumour are raising money for the hospital where she was treated.

Emma Lawrenson, nee Harrison, who grew up in Teesdale, was diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was 22.

Although she fought the condition for nine years, undergoing major surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Mrs Lawrenson died in November 2010, aged 32.

Her parents, Penelope and Jack, from Barnard Castle, and her siblings have organised a fundraising family fun day, in aid of the Neuroscience Research department, at the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, in memory of Mrs Lawrenson, who was a teacher in Cheshire.

The event takes place at Barnard Castle Methodist Church, on Saturday, starting at 10am.

It includes a treasure hunt with more than £150 worth of prizes donated by local shops, a table top sale, and a rock concert by three bands from The Hub, in the town.

There will also be a coffee morning, light lunches, posh afternoon teas, a cake stall and face painting.

Entry into the treasure hunt is £2. Forms will be available on the day.

Mrs Harrison encouraged as many people as possible to attend the event in memory of her daughter, who was a former pupil of Staindrop School and the Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form Centre, in Darlington.

To donate, leave a cheque made people to Neuroscience Research, at Barnard Castle Methodist Church.
