THIS is how an area of wasteland cleared of housing under a council regeneration scheme is to be redeveloped.

An artist’s impression shows how a new health will modernise facilities for Chilton and transform an unsightly area.

Durham County Council has granted planning permission for the new facility on land previously occupied by houses of Oswald Terrace and 35 to 55 Dale Street. They were demolished as part of a regeneration initiative.

It will replace the town’s dated Durham Road surgery.

Ferryhill and Chilton Medical Practice and Burgess and Hyder Dental Group are leading the project and the new building will accommodate a pharmacy and primary care trust offices.

It will be predominantly single storey, with parking space for 38 cars, three motorbikes, ten bicycles and three bays for disabled visitors.

County Durham Primary Care Trust owns the Durham Road property and has confirmed that once the new centre is complete and occupied, it will be sold on the open market.
