A MAN was taken to hospital with a broken leg after he was hit by a car while using a zebra crossing.

The incident happened on Victoria Road, in Darlington, near the junction with Bedford Street, at 7.45am yesterday when a 28-year-old man was hit by a Mitsubishi L200 as he crossed the road.

The man suffered a broken femur and was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed for some time and diversions put in place while the man was treated at the scene.
