NEWCASTLE United fans angry at their stadium’s new name have again daubed St James’ Park on the walls.
Police in the city are investigating vandalism at the ground at about 2.50am this morning, Friday April 27.
The club has upset supporters by re-naming the stadium The Sports Direct Arena after owner Mike Ashley’s company.
But Newcastle City Council and the Ordnance Survey say it will still be referred to as St James’ Park.
The ground is due to hold games featuring Spain, Brazil and Mexico in this summer’s Olympic football tournament. It is the latest in a number of incidents of graffiti and sign removal.
Northumbria Police are urging anyone with information to call them on their non-emergency number, 101.
