A murder investigation has been launched after a woman’s body was found in Whitby.
The 50-year-old, who had suffered head injuries, was found by family members at a flat on Church Square, on the West Cliff area of the town, at 12.40pm on Wednesday 25 April 2012.
North Yorkshire Police have not yet identified the victim, who is from the town.
A spokesperson said: "Police enquiries in and around the scene of the incident are ongoing.
"Patrols have been stepped up to support the investigation and provide reassurance to concerned residents.
"In the meantime, police have urged witnesses or anyone with information that that could assist the murder enquiry to make urgent contact."
Officers would like to speak to anyone who was in the Church Square area during the early hours of Wednesday 25 April 2012 and urge anyone to contact the police immediately, especially covering the period around 6am.
