CONFECTIONERS at a bakery have received royal consent to create a cake to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee - and are calling on youngster to help inspire its design.

Budding bakers from primary schools across Yorkshire are invited to send their creative ideas to the confectioners at Bettys Craft Bakery, in Harrogate.

They are creating a four-tier hexagonal cake ‘fit for a Queen’.

Pupils who most inspire the cake decorating experts will be invited to the Bakery to see their designs brought to life.

A Bettys spokeswoman said: “It isn’t every day that there’s the chance to make a cake for the Queen and we can’t wait to share this exciting opportunity with local children.

“Bettys has been making celebration cakes by hand for over 90 years and the specialist skills of our craft-trained confectioners have been handed down the generations since the family business began.

“We pride ourselves especially on a strong sense of tradition, the high quality of the ingredients we use and our meticulous attention to detail.”

It’s not the first time Bettys has made a commemorative cake to take to Buckingham Palace. The family business created special cakes for both the Queen’s Silver and Golden Jubilees.

Representatives from interested schools are asked to call Laura Crisp, at Bettys, on 01423-814000 for more details.

Entries must be received by March 30.
