THE final two public consultation events into the latest round of council cuts will be held in the New Year.

One of the two meetings will focus on services for young people before the final round of talks giving people the chance to discuss the savings.

Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet group produced a draft budget last month as it looks to reduce its budget by £10.8m as a result of its 25 per cent cut in funding.

Budget proposals include the closure of the Arts Centre, Cockerton Library, East Row toilets, the withdrawal of bus subsidies, increased parking charges on Sundays, focusing CCTV on the town centre, not opening the Dolphin Centre on bank holidays and changes to school crossing patrols.

Three Talking Together consultation events have already taken place, including one for disabled people and another for older residents.

The final two events will take place at the Dolphin Centre on Saturday, January 7, from 10am to noon, for younger people and on Tuesday, January 17, from 6pm to 8pm, for the public.
