FIRE crews used cutting equipment to free two people trapped following a two vehicle smash on the A68 at Witton-le-Wear, County Durham, at 8.39pm tonight.
Firefighters cut into the wreckage and the injured were removed by paramedics and taken to hospital.
The extent of their injuries is not known.
Earlier at 8.24pm three fire crews responded to a report of persons trapped in a road accident involving four cars on the A689 on the Wolsingham to Frosterley road. However, on arrival no action was needed and all people were accounted for.
