A BED fit for a king will add to the ambience of a Shakespearean comedy after a company stepped in to help a drama group.

Anthony Nixon Furniture, in Barnard Castle, County Durham, has made an ornate bed which will be used in the town’s Castle Players’ outdoor production of All’s Well That Ends Well.

The production, which will be held in the grounds of The Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle, is set in Thirties’ France. Director Jill Cole said the bed will be an invaluable prop.

“It will be used for the sick king and it’s a shame the king isn’t ill for longer, because I would have loved to use it more,” she said.

Chris Dauber, from Anthony Nixon furniture, said: “In the past we have given materials to the players, but this year we thought we might as well go one better and actually make the thing ourselves.”

All’s Well That Ends Well runs from Wednesday until Saturday and tickets are still available. To book, visit castleplayers.co.uk
