YOUNG farmers from Worcestershire raised more than £2,000 for St Richard's Hospice Appeal by cycling 11 miles on a 23-seat bike.

The Christmas Big Bike Ride saw the riders, all members of Bromsgrove Young Farmers' Club, travel from Wychbold to Worcester.

"It's was great fun and we were overwhelmed by the goodwill and generosity of people along the route towards St Richard's," said St Richard's community fund-raiser Alison Weston following the ride on Saturday.

"The team really enjoyed themselves and caused a lot of head-turning as they cycled along wearing Santa hats on this huge bike."

The money will go towards a £5.25m state-of-the-art hospice to be built on a 3.5 acre site opposite the Countryside Centre on Wildwood Way, Worcester.

It will combine all the current services for cancer sufferers and people with life-threatening illnesses with a new residential service.

The charity is currently based at Rose Hill, Worcester.
