SURESTARTt officials are celebrating after two playgroups and creches received glowing reports from Government inspectors.

Leapfrogs, in Hindpool Close, on the Central Estate, and West View-based Ladybirds, both in Hartlepool, underwent separate inspections and were judged on five main areas of work.

They were found to be outstanding in three areas and good in two others.

The nurseries were found to be outstanding in respect of helping children to be healthy; protecting children from harm or neglect and helping them stay safe; and helping children achieve well and enjoy what they do.

Good ratings were awarded for their work in helping children make a positive contribution and general organisation.

Both nurseries serve families in the Headland, Central Estate, West View and King Oswy areas of the town.

Inspector Ann Coggin said in her reports: "Children are involved in an excellent range of stimulating activities and play experiences that enhance all aspects of their learning and development.

"Children settle well because staff work closely with parents to ensure home routines are followed. Staff actively seek parents' views about their children's needs and they ensure parents are informed about their children's progress."

She also acknowledged the "warm, caring and well-organised environment" of the groups.

They each opened in March this year.

Leapfrogs, which is registered for a maximum of 24 children, aged from birth to under five, currently has 107 children on its roll who attend for a variety of sessions.

Ladybirds is registered for up to 14 children and has 16 on its roll.

Sue Lewins, play, learning and childcare co-ordinator with SureStart North Hartlepool, said: "We are delighted with both reports which reflect the commitment and dedication of all staff."
