A GUIDED walk through the birthplace of the industrial revolution promises to take the public on the journey of a lifetime this weekend.
The tour through the Gaunless Valley, County Durham, will take visitors to a series of landmarks that sprung up during the 19th Century.
The walk will visit Copley Chimney, which is an old smelting mill, the Gaunless Valley Visitor Centre, and Cockfield Fell, believed to be the site of the world's first commercial mine.
Steven Roberts, of Groundwork West Durham, said the walk will be a reminder of how important the Gaunless Valley was during the birth of the industrial revolution.
He said: "The route will take in a variety of features in the Gaunless Valley, and the visitor centre will provide a unique insight into the industrial and social life of the area around the turn of the 19th Century."
The walk has been organised by the Gaunless Valley Steering Group, with support from Groundwork West Durham, Teesdale District Council and Durham County Council.
